My Philosophy On Homebirth

April 2004 Home Birth

My philosophy is based on 3 principles:

  • Pregnancy and birth is a natural process and a time of celebration.
  • All women have a right to a dignified, enriched and satisfying birth experience.
  • All women have an inherent ability to birth.

Emphasis is placed on an outcome that is safe, enriched and satisfying to your family's spiritual and physical needs. Your right to participate in decisions regarding maternity care is honored.

You are encouraged to write a birth plan and make choices regarding care. Within the constraints of safety, you may make choices regarding care during the prenatal, birthing and postpartum periods that allow you the latitude to reflect your personal philosophies and preferences. Unnecessary interference is kept to a minimum. When correcting any imbalance in the mother's health and well-being, the least intrusive methods are first tried (again with an eye towards safety.)
